CIENA HEALTHCARE OPENS NEW SKILLED NURSING AND SHORT-TERM REHABILITATION CENTER IN SHELBY TOWNSHIP

Multi-Million Dollar Investment “Regency at Shelby Township” Features Private Suites and Job Creation at Historic Location

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – August 4, 2015 – Ciena Healthcare, a leading manager and operator of skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers in Michigan and Connecticut, celebrated the grand opening of its newest skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in Shelby Township. The 116-bed facility, “Regency at Shelby Township” located at 7401 22 Mile Rd., is an innovative center with a licensed and certified team of professionals offering person-centered care in a comfortable setting with state of the art rehabilitation gym to bridge the gap between hospital and home.

Dignitaries at the ribbon cutting ceremony included Shelby Township Supervisor Richard Stathakis, State Representative Jeff Farrington, State Senator Phil Pavlov and the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Located on one of the sandpits of the historic Packard Proving Grounds, Regency at Shelby Township is the third Ciena Healthcare center in Macomb County. Built at a cost of more than $10 million, Regency at Shelby Township will create more than 150 full-time, part-time and contingent jobs. Through its person centered programs and therapeutic advances in physical and occupational therapy, and speech and language pathology, Regency at Shelby Township is dedicated to improving patients mobility and function, allowing them to return home in a timely manner.

“Regency at Shelby Township continues the Ciena Healthcare tradition of putting residents needs first to shorten the gap between hospital care and returning home,” said Mohammad Qazi, President, Ciena Healthcare. “The center’s dedicated and professional staff is committed to delivering the best quality care, and making residents feel at home and a part of a vibrant community.”

Regency at Shelby Township, located on six acres, includes 60 private suites and 28 semi-private suites with individual showers, complementary television, phone, and Internet service, 24 hour room service, rejuvenating spa, full service salon with massage room, manicure and pedicure services, spacious dining room and common areas throughout. Understanding that one’s recovery encompasses the entire body, all rooms in the center offer scenic views for resident relaxation and rejuvenation. Lush courtyards and an outdoor patio also offer residents a calm escape to unwind and reflect.

An executive sous-chef and culinary team created a restaurant-style dining experience where guests can eat when they choose, similar to that of an upscale restaurant. In the main dining room, The Packard Lounge – named after the Packard Proving Grounds – residents will enjoy a selection of food options that vary daily. Also, 24-hour room service is available to accommodate guests’ requests.

To meet the medical needs of the residents, Regency at Shelby Township offers a range of comprehensive therapy and nursing care under the direction of a board certified physician. Skilled services include, 24-hour nursing care, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology, Wound Care and Pain Management, and IV therapy. Therapy is available 7 days a week in the state-of the art therapy gym.

“We welcome Ciena Healthcare’s Regency at Shelby Township to our community,” said Richard Stathakis, Supervisor, Shelby Township.  “Providing high quality care for both short- and long-term residents is a great asset to our area, along with employment opportunities with a stable, Michigan-based company.”

“We are very excited to bring such a beautiful facility with the very latest in medical care to this area,” said Rebecca Maze, Administrator, Regency at Shelby Township. “As a proud resident of Shelby Township myself, I look forward to helping our residents stay connected to the community they know and love.”

The new Regency at Shelby Township is located on one of the sandpits that back the historic Packard Proving Grounds.  In the 1920s, the Packard Proving Grounds were used to test Packard automobiles and aircraft engines. In 1929, famed aviator Charles Lindbergh visited the grounds to test a Packard powered airplane. During World War II, Chrysler leased the location to test tanks and other armored vehicles. Guests will be able to experience the history of the Packard Proving Grounds with historic replicas throughout the halls of the center.

“Skilled nursing facilities like Regency at Shelby Township are an integral part of reducing hospital readmissions as mandated by the Affordable Care Act,” added Qazi.  “Regency at Shelby Township will provide care to residents requiring additional therapy and recovery time before returning home.”
