WHITMORE LAKE, Mich. – Sept. 22, 2014 – Regency at Whitmore Lake, a newly renovated 135-bed Ciena Healthcare skilled nursing center/sub-acute rehabilitation center, has announced that nursing assistant Angelique “Angie” St. Charles received the 2014 Clark Sawyer Memorial Scholarship from the Health Care Association of Michigan (HCAM).

The Clark Sawyer Memorial Scholarship, established in 1979, rewards students who are employed through HCAM member facilities that are attending college with a long-term care related major. The scholarship is worth $2,000 and is submission-based.

St. Charles was recognized at an awards luncheon September 15 at HCAM’s annual convention, held this year in Grand Rapids.

“I am honored to receive the Clark Sawyer Memorial Scholarship,” stated St. Charles, who has worked at the facility for nearly two years. “The financial support offered by this scholarship will help me reach my goal of completing a nursing degree.”

The Certified Nurse Assistant at Regency of Whitmore Lake and mother of three loves working with the people at Regency at Whitmore Lake, and plans on staying there once she completes an accelerated licensed practical nurse (LPN) program through Athena Career Academy located in Toledo, Ohio. Her leadership abilities stand out as she reaches her highest potential at RWL.

“Angie definitely has what it takes to excel as a nurse,” said Matthew Baad, the Administrator at Regency at Whitmore Lake. “She is dependable and can always be found with an enthusiastic smile and wonderful attitude. Furthermore, she demonstrates leadership on the floor, while ensuring the residents are receiving the best care possible.”

St. Charles added, “The staff and residents here at Regency at Whitmore Lake have been very supportive of my going back to school. I couldn’t ask for a better place to work.”

The Health Care Association of Michigan (HCAM) is the premier professional association representing nursing and rehabilitation communities.  HCAM represents approximately 300 facilities including for and not for profit, county medical care and hospital-based providers.  For more information, please visit
