CHRISTIAN PARK VILLAGE DIRECTOR OF NURSING NAMED

NURSE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE YEAR

ESCANABA, Mich. – Oct. 30, 2014 – Christian Park Village, a Ciena Healthcare skilled nursing center in Escanaba, is home to the Nurse Administrator of the Year for the Northern Region of Michigan, Maureen Cary. Cary received the honor from the Michigan National Association Directors of Nursing Administration Convocation (NADONA/LTC) at their recent meeting in Battle Creek.

The National Association Directors of Nursing Administration in Long Term Care is a professional nurses association dedicated exclusively to nurse executives and nurse administrators in the long-term care continuum.

Cary has been Director of Nursing at Christian Park Village since 2009, after joining the center as an LPN in 2005.  Under her leadership, Christian Park Village has had two consecutive deficiency free surveys in 2013 and 2014.

“Maureen’s compassion for both residents and staff is an inspiration to all of us,” said Wayne Johnson, administrator, Christian Park Village.  “Her spirit and energy are showcased on a daily basis, as she makes multiple rounds through the center, tending to residents’ needs and making them feel at home.”

Cary was instrumental in Christian Park Village being honored as one of only four Michigan skilled nursing centers to achieve Tier IV Status in the American Health Care Association (AHCA) Quality Initiative Recognition Program for achieving the following objectives:  safely reducing hospital readmissions, increasing customer satisfaction, increasing staff stability and safely reducing the use of antipsychotics.

Additionally, Cary’s work has aided in geriatric research, resulting in positive results for the center’s residents.  Christian Park Village implemented an Alarm-Free initiative in mid-2013, where Cary and her team successfully care planned the removal of all resident alarms, which resulted in higher resident and staff satisfaction scores.  The quiet, homelike atmosphere that ensued has led to increased referrals, heightened quality of life and raised the level of dignity in the resident population.

“Maureen truly is a leader in providing care at Christian Park Village and dedicated to the continued improvement of the entire skilled nursing industry,” added Johnson.

Cary resides in Rapid River with her husband and two children.
