Seven Ciena Healthcare Centers Received National Quality Award for Commitment to Quality Care

Ciena Healthcare, a leading manager and operator of skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers in Michigan, announced that seven of its centers have earned a 2016 National Quality Award for their dedication to improving the lives of residents through quality care. Presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), the National Quality Award Program honors centers across the nation that have demonstrated their commitment to improving quality care for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Of the seven Ciena Healthcare centers, three centers received the Silver Award and four received the Bronze Award. Kith Haven of Flint, Manor of Farmington Hills and Regency on the Lake in Ft. Gratiot received the Silver – Achievement in Quality Award, and Autumnwood of Livonia, Eastwood Convalescent Center in Detroit, Notting Hill of West Bloomfield and Regency at Grand Blanc are recipients of the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award.

Implemented by AHCA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award Program is centered on the core values and criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, which is the foundation of the metric-based AHCA/NCAL Quality Initiative. The program assists providers of long term and post-acute care services in achieving their performance goals.
The program has three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Providers begin the quality improvement process at the Bronze level, where they develop an organizational profile with fundamental performance elements such as vision and mission statements and an assessment of customers’ expectations. Trained Examiners review each application to determine if the center has met the demands of the criteria. Recipients may now move forward in developing approaches and achieving the performance levels that meet the criteria required for the Gold and Silver awards.
“It takes incredible dedication and passion to successfully apply the demands of the criteria,” said Chair of the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers Christine Boldt. “I applaud each of the seven Ciena Healthcare centers for reaching this level and for their commitment to always improve.”
The awards were presented to honorees on October 18 during AHCA/NCAL’s 67th Annual Convention & Expo in Nashville, Tenn.
