Short-Term Nursing and Rehabilitation in Canton, MI

Ken was an adventurous 25 year old that loved Motocross dirt bike racing! During one race however, he was forced to put his leg out as a kickstand to prevent a fall which resulted in his leg being “twisted then run over” by another dirt bike! He missed two weeks of work as a result and fortunately wasn’t bothered again until five years ago. By that time, arthritis had set into the entire leg making daily responsibilities and activities that he enjoyed, particularly his part-time job post early retirement from Ford Motor in 2007, spending time with his grandkids, and working on cars more difficult and increasingly painful.
Ken is a survivor of abdominal cancer. While being treated in 2012 he received a CT scan which “accidentally” showed bone on bone in his left hip joint. He realized that surgery was inevitable and it became apparent that it had to be done sooner rather than later when the pain changed from an occasional sharp pain to a constant “bone aching pain”. He stated at this point he could barely ambulate. Surgery was scheduled but as the pain increased he requested to be put on the surgeon’s cancellation list and felt so fortunate when an opening arose just in time to complete the two weeks of pre-surgery ortho education classes.

Ken’s surgeon recommended Regency At Canton for his rehabilitation and Ken exclaims, “I’m not even completely through my healing process and I’m cruising around with no pain! It’s so gratifying! My therapists here have been so great! Every day I feel like I’m getting stronger and I have to remind myself not to over-exert!”
Ken took part in and thoroughly enjoyed the recreational activities offered at Regency At Canton and states he made some wonderful friendships. Some highlights in Ken’s stay included WII games and therapy with other residents and the Bible study every Sunday. He plans on returning for visits with those friends. He also raved about Chef DeWayne’s outstanding cooking!!
He has already recommended Regency to two close friends who are having upcoming surgeries. Ken stated that he truly feels that Regency At Canton rehabilitation gave him the therapy and motivation that allowed him to heal so quickly! Ken adds, “I feel so blessed and excited to get back to my life- this experience is definitely going to improve my quality of life!”

Ruth was admitted to the hospital because she had an Aortic Aneurysm and had to have surgery to correct the problem. Unfortunately several complications occurred shortly after surgery, she had a heart attack and colon issues. Ruth ended up needing a feeding tube in her stomach because she wasn’t able to eat and was completely bed bound when she transferred from the hospital to Regency at Canton.
Ruth has been to several other rehabilitation centers in the past, but none like Regency at Canton. She states, “All of the nurses and nursing assistants are wonderful. When you ring the call light, they come. You don’t have to wait a long time.”
She goes on to explain, “The therapy department is amazing! Everyone that I worked with was great. They work you hard, just to the right point of seeing results.”
Ruth is going home with her husband and feels like she can return to her independent lifestyle. She couldn’t move or eat when she first got to Regency at Canton, and is now walking with a cane and completely eating on her own. Ruth exclaims, “If it wasn’t for Regency at Canton, I don’t think I ever would have gotten back on my feet! I would recommend this place to anyone!”

Jane came to Regency at Canton after a car accident in her beloved Mustang. She was hospitalized for several days because she fractured her pelvis and ribs, and had all over body soreness and weakness. When she first arrived at Regency she was pretty much bed bound and unable to move. Jane explains, “I’ve been to other rehabilitation centers in the past, but my son toured and was very impressed. He told me he thought he found a beautiful place for me to go to get better and walk again”. Since her stay at Regency at Canton, Jane states “I feel like I can live independently again in my home of 55 years with my darling cat. I wasn’t sure if it was possible after such a traumatic experience since I am now 90 years old!” When asked about the staff at Regency at Canton, Jane is excited to say, “The nurses are dedicated to the patients emotional and physical needs and far surpassed all of my expectations”. She goes on to say, “The therapy staff is outstanding! They are so devoted to their patients and I can’t thank them enough for giving me back my independence.” “I truly want to thank everyone at Regency at Canton for everything they have done for me. I will miss them greatly, but will be happy to come back to visit soon.”

Sandi and her husband Bob were in the midst of remodeling their kitchen when they took a trip to the hardware for more supplies. She was in the bed of the truck helping her husband unload when she fell off the tailgate breaking her tibia and fibula. She went to St Joseph Mercy Hospital and had to have surgery which included a bone graft, plate and screws.
Sandi went from the hospital to another skilled nursing and rehabilitation center where she explains “the care there was horrible and it was a very traumatic experience for me”. Bob adds, “I didn’t even want to leave my wife there. Thank God a friend told us about Regency at Canton, so I transferred her there immediately.”
According to Sandi, “the difference between the other facility and Regency at Canton is night and day. The staff here has been wonderful! Everyone here comes to work with helping and compassion on their mind. No matter what the employee’s job duty, everyone answers my call light and attends to my every need”. Bob goes on to say, “everyone greets you with a smile and a hello, which can mean so much!”

“When I came to Regency at Canton I was completely helpless and in constant pain. When nothing seemed to work, the Nurse Practitioner put me on a new regiment that finally got my pain under control so that I could be comfortable and participate in therapy. Joji in therapy also taught me exercises that helped to control the pain. I will continue doing them at home.”
Sandi raves about the Physical and Occupational Therapy, pointing out “I am very impressed at how the therapy staff works together as a team. They are all incredible and it is a delight to spend the day in the gym with them and the other patients. The level of encouragement they provide to us and the progress we make is so encouraging. My Occupational Therapist Dan is worth his weight in gold!”
Sandi is excited to get back home and may unfortunately have to have another surgery on her leg in the near future. As she walks out the door, Sandi exclaims “I’ll definitely be back! As a patient again or to play with my dulcimer band for other patients at Regency at Canton!”

Helene’s osteoarthritis in her knee was gradually getting worse and worse. She tried everything known to man to try to reduce the pain and improve her mobility, including steroid shots and Synvisc shots to try to help rebuild the cartilage in her knee. Nothing worked, “My knee was still grinding bone on bone and I was in so much pain that I could barely walk or get out of my car!” “I used to be able to shop all day long, but towards the end I was limited to only about 2 hours and wouldn’t dare trying to walk through a mall, one of my favorite places”. “My Occupational Therapist Jill was great! My Physical Therapist Syed was wonderful too. He taught me to work through the pain and pushed me to strive harder when I wanted to give up.” Helene adds, “All of the nursing staff was fantastic, especially my nurses Roxane and Niki and Nursing Assistants Natasha and Ashley. They knew all of the things that I like and made sure that I had them before I even asked.” Helene exclaims, “100% I would recommend Regency at Canton to anyone and everyone I know! Now that I came to Regency at Canton for rehabilitation, I don’t understand how people can go home right after surgery. Regency offers the staff and equipment you need to get better as fast as possible to return home to your independence.”

Our family couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful care my 88-year-old mama received during her 4-week stay at Regency of Canton. My mama has dementia & Parkinson’s. Every staff member — from nurses & therapists to aides & administrative staff — treated her with kindness, respect, and genuine compassion. The facility was always clean and well-organized, and the team went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable and supported throughout her recovery.

I think the administrator is the best thing about Regency at Canton. Amy is hands on with the residents and takes care of any issues brought to her attention. The staff take care of my needs and the facility is very clean. I highly recommend this facility.

Regency is a very professional facility. The entire staff was very pleasant to work with and the level of acute rehabilitation was top notch. Social services, nursing staff, and the shift caregivers treated our relative with plenty of respect and wonderful attention. The facility handled 2 isolated Covid incidents as well as could be expected. We recommend that you give this facility a chance to help your loved one recover from any incident..
