Short-Term Nursing and Rehabilitation in Warren, MI

We would like to thank the staff at The Laurels of DeKalb for their treatment of our parents during their stay. Your group was quick to respond to all our questions, very attentive to our parents needs, and always willing to go the extra mile to insure our parents happiness. Our parents have been in other places for rehab in the past but we can say without hesitation that our parents enjoyed their stay with you the most and had no complaints at all during their stay.

I could not be happier with The Laurels - both the facility and staff have exceeded my expectations. My aunt was bounced between hospitals and rehabs for the weeks prior to her arrival at the Laurels; she was disoriented, highly agitated and desperate to “go home” and then almost immediately came to see The Laurels as home ... Unfortunately, she is now too healthy to stay but doesn’t want to leave. As anyone that has ever loved an aging relative will know - that’s not as much a problem as a ringing endorsement.

The facility is older but also smaller. I believe they have less than 100 beds/rooms. Smaller nursing homes often offer better services to patients with family support. Also, the Dir. of Admission has several years of experience that helps her work well with patients and their families.

Sandi and her husband Bob were in the midst of remodeling their kitchen when they took a trip to the hardware for more supplies. She was in the bed of the truck helping her husband unload when she fell off the tailgate breaking her tibia and fibula. She went to St Joseph Mercy Hospital and had to have surgery which included a bone graft, plate and screws.
Sandi went from the hospital to another skilled nursing and rehabilitation center where she explains “the care there was horrible and it was a very traumatic experience for me”. Bob adds, “I didn’t even want to leave my wife there. Thank God a friend told us about Regency at Canton, so I transferred her there immediately.”
According to Sandi, “the difference between the other facility and Regency at Canton is night and day. The staff here has been wonderful! Everyone here comes to work with helping and compassion on their mind. No matter what the employee’s job duty, everyone answers my call light and attends to my every need”. Bob goes on to say, “everyone greets you with a smile and a hello, which can mean so much!”

“When I came to Regency at Canton I was completely helpless and in constant pain. When nothing seemed to work, the Nurse Practitioner put me on a new regiment that finally got my pain under control so that I could be comfortable and participate in therapy. Joji in therapy also taught me exercises that helped to control the pain. I will continue doing them at home.”
Sandi raves about the Physical and Occupational Therapy, pointing out “I am very impressed at how the therapy staff works together as a team. They are all incredible and it is a delight to spend the day in the gym with them and the other patients. The level of encouragement they provide to us and the progress we make is so encouraging. My Occupational Therapist Dan is worth his weight in gold!”
Sandi is excited to get back home and may unfortunately have to have another surgery on her leg in the near future. As she walks out the door, Sandi exclaims “I’ll definitely be back! As a patient again or to play with my dulcimer band for other patients at Regency at Canton!”
